Indian Railway is an Indian state owned enterprise, owned and operated by Government of India, through ministries of railway. It is one of the world’s largest railway networks with comprising 115,000 km of track over a route of 65,808 km and 7,112 stations. Railway was first introduced to India in the year 1853 from Mumbai to Thane. In 1951 the systems were nationalised and became Indian Railway.
Staff are classified into gazetted (Group A and B) and non- gazetted (Group C and D) employees. Recruitment of group A and B is handled by Union Service Commission and recruitment of group C and D is carried out by 20 Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB) and Railway recruitment cells (RRC) which are controlled by the Railway Recruitment Control Board (RRCB). As report of 2014, nearly 1.334 million employees are working under Indian Railway.

In written examination there will be 100 multiple questions each carries 1 and half mark each, so paper will be 150marks. There will 1/3rd of negative mark penalty for each wrong answer given. Railway Exam Syllabus 2016:
Below we have given syllabus of all subjects, from where questions to be asked.
General Knowledge: In this subjects questions were asked from current affairs, Major finance/ economic news, budget and 5 year plans, who is who, sports, books and honors, science, abbreviations, important days, national and international organization.
Arithmetic Ability: In this section questions to be asked from number system, HCF/LCM, simplification, decimal, fractions, ratios and proportions, unitary method, percentage, time and distance, time and work, profit and loss, average, simple and compound interest, data interpretations.
Technical Ability: This section is little bit tricky as questions to be asked to test your technical knowledge about profession and presence of mind.
Reasoning Ability: Questions to be asked from number series, alphabet, test of direction sense, coding- decoding, number ranking, arithmetical reasoning, problem on age calculation, blood relation and analogy section.
Non- Verbal: Non-verbal series, mirror images, cubes and dice, grouping identical figures, embedded figures etc.
